Tummy Tuck
(Abdominoplasty)

Are you  a candidate for Abdominoplasty?

Or will liposuction work for you?  Less than 5 % of Dr. Dobson's patients actually require a tummy tuck.  Ninety-five percent of the time, his patients only require modern liposuction.  Please review the before and after photographs of our patients who have received the liposuction only cosmetic surgery procedure.

Less than 5% of our patients need
an actual tummy tuck.

Most of us long for an attractive, flat abdomen. The protruding abdomen may result from weak abdominal muscles, excess fat, pregnancy, or loose skin.  It may also be the result of massive weight loss.

Abdominoplasty, a surgical procedure, is designed to flatten a protruding stomach.  For the five percent of Dr. Dobson's patients who require more than modern liposuction,  abdominoplasty can remove excess fatty tissue and skin as well as tightening the muscles in the abdominal wall.

The Tummy Tuck Procedure

There are two surgical procedures used to flatten a protruding stomach.  The best technique for you will depend upon your goals and specific problems.  Dr. Dobson will meet with you to assess your personal situation.

The mini tummy tuck is for patients who have laxity and excess skin below the navel.  A full tummy tuck is reserved for those with severe laxity of their abdominal muscle or excessive skin.

Mini Tummy Tuck

  • outpatient procedure
  • general anesthesia
  • usually performed in conjunction with liposuction
  • small incision in the bikini area
  • excess skin and fat is removed through incision
  • may have permanent sutures to tighten muscles

Full Tummy Tuck

  • outpatient procedure
  • general anesthesia
  • incision around the navel and another incision from hip to hip
  • entire abdominal wall is tightened with permanent sutures
  • excess skin and fat is removed

Recovery

  • bedrest the first day
  • may experience numbness in the abdominal area, which may last for as long as a year
  • pain will be controlled with oral medication
  • sutures will be removed in 1 to 2 weeks following surgery
  • a special abdominal support garment will be worn for several weeks
  • must refrain from strenuous activity or lifting during recovery
  • most patients go back to work within one to three weeks

Are you a candidate for Abdominoplasty?

Dr. Dobson can best evaluate your condition and recommend whether you are a candidate for abdominoplasty.  A complete consultation with a recommended treatment plan will be designed for you specifically.  Any issues or concerns you have will be discussed.
