Ultrasound-assisted Liposuction Ultrasound-assisted liposuction, commonly known as "UAL," uses sound waves to "liquefy" unwanted fat. Ultrasonic energy targets the fat cells, leaving the surrounding structures, such as blood vessels and connective tissues, apparently undamaged. The fractionated fat can then be removed using low-volume suction. Although it is not a substitute for tumescent liposuction, UAL can be an effective tool for removing fat from fibrous body areas, such as the male breasts or the back, or for removing larger volumes of fat in a single procedure. Our website can't answer all of your questions, since a lot depends on your individual needs. Ultimately, you and Dr. Dobson will determine whether UAL is best suited for you. Please ask Dr. Dobson if there is anything about the procedure you don't understand. UAL has shown:
UAL: Are You a Candidate?Candidates for UAL are generally no different than candidates for the traditional liposuction procedure.
RisksAll surgery carries some uncertainty and risk. Since it was first described in the medical literature in 1991, UAL has been performed on several thousand patients worldwide. However, long-term effects of ultrasound energy are not known and extensive research and clinical trials are needed to establish fully the safety and efficacy of UAL. So far, clinical investigators have reported good results from the technique. Before & After Photos
